New Non-Partisan Report: Sestak’s Massive Health Care Overhaul Slams Pennsylvania Seniors With Higher Costs

With just 20 days until Election Day, a new report by the non-partisan Centers for Medicare and Medicaid reveals that President Obama and liberal U.S. Representative Joe Sestak’s (D-PA) costly, unpopular health care overhaul will cut Medicare benefits for Pennsylvania seniors, and endanger seniors’ health coverage – breaking a key promise made to voters as Democrats attempted to sell their massive health spending bill.

As Politico reports:

A Medicare official concedes that seniors may have to dig deeper into their wallets next year thanks to the health care law. The new analysis obtained by POLITICO finds the health care overhaul will result in increased out-of-pocket costs for seniors on Medicare Advantage plans. Richard Foster, the actuary for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid, also tells Senate Republicans that the overhaul will result in “less generous benefit packages” for Medicare Advantage plans next year. Foster is independent from the administration and non-partisan… Republicans say dramatic changes to the program mean some seniors won’t be able to keep their plans – a promise President Barack Obama made during the reform debate – and the GOP has made the issue part of its attempt to roll back the health law.

In addition to cutting Medicare by $500 billion, reducing benefits and raising costs for seniors, Sestak’s costly, unpopular overhaul endangers jobs and could strip more than one million other Americans of their health coverage.

“This non-partisan report confirms that liberal Joe Sestak’s costly, unpopular health care overhaul will hurt seniors—so why won’t Sestak just admit that he was wrong to ram it into law?” asked National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) spokeswoman Amber Marchand. “As his health spending bill slams Pennsylvanians with higher costs and puts their coverage at risk, voters are reminded once again that Sestak has consistently put his own reckless, partisan agenda ahead of their best interests in Washington.”

NRSC Launches New Ad in Pennsylvania Highlighting Sestak’s Far-Left Position on the Issues

In Pennsylvania, the NRSC launched a new independent expenditure TV ad this morning, entitled “Interview,” highlighting liberal Congressman Joe Sestak’s far-left positions on a number of critical issues facing the Keystone State. National Journal’s Hotline On Call reports:

The NRSC is going up with its first IE ad in Pennsylvania on Wednesday. The ad, provided to Hotline On Call, hits Rep. Joe Sestak (D) hard on the stimulus, health care reform and cap and trade, using clips of Sestak interviews. "What did Joe Sestak think of the stimulus bill that failed to create jobs?," the narrator asks. "It's the minimum amount needed, I would have voted for $1 trillion," Sestak responds. On health care reform: "Hard for me to vote for a bill that doesn't have a public health care option in it," Sestak says. On cap and trade: "I pushed hard for the cap and trade bill." "There's left. There's far left. And then there's Joe Sestak," the ad concludes… While it is the first time the NRSC has launched its own ad in the Pennsylvania race, it is worth keeping in mind that the committee has already given $1.7M to former Rep. Pat Toomey's (R) campaign in coordinated campaign funds.

Meanwhile, the Allentown Morning Call reports that Sestak is under fire for his extreme anti-Second Amendment record:

With economic issues owning the political conversation this election cycle, there hasn't been much back and forth on social policy. But the National Rifle Association, one of the nation's most influential lobbying groups, is spending $400,000 to tell gun rights advocates that Democrat Joe Sestak is a man to fear. "They are pushing a radical agenda to take away your freedom, take away your Second Amendment rights" a voiceover in the ad says. "And Joe Sestak is helping them do it. If Joe Sestak wins, you lose."

NRSC Launches New TV Ad In Pennsylvania, “Interview”

The National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) announced its first independent expenditure television advertisement in Pennsylvania today, entitled "Interview." The NRSC’s new ad highlights U.S. Representative Joe Sestak’s (D-PA) far-left positions on a number of critical issues facing his state, including the stimulus debacle, job-killing cap-and-tax legislation, and President Barack Obama’s costly health care bill.

NRSC Press Secretary Amber Marchand issued the following statement today:

"Not only is Congressman Joe Sestak to the far-left of his party, but he is simply too extreme for voters in Pennsylvania. On the failed $787 billion stimulus debacle, Sestak wanted to spend even more. On health care, Sestak advocated for a massive government takeover. And Sestak not only supports his party’s job-killing cap-and-tax legislation, but he called for the bill to go even further. Joe Sestak is too liberal for the Keystone State, and he will continue to fight for the fringe-left agenda if he’s promoted to the U.S. Senate in November - not for Pennsylvanians’ best interests."

National Journal’s Hotline On Call reports today:

NRSC Blitzes Sestak: The NRSC is going up with its first IE ad in Pennsylvania on Wednesday. The ad, provided to Hotline On Call, hits Rep. Joe Sestak (D) hard on the stimulus, health care reform and cap and trade, using clips of Sestak interviews. Sestak Goes Unnoticed While Obama Attempted to Rescue the Democrats’ Chances in Pennsylvania

And as President Obama attempts to rescue the Democrats’ chances in Pennsylvania, Politico notes that Sestak seemed “merely an afterthought”:

Two other politicians there went almost unnoticed: Democratic Senate candidate Joe Sestak and Democratic gubernatorial candidate Dan Onorato… Yet Sestak and Onorato seemed merely an afterthought at the event — Onorato spoke for just over two minutes, and Sestak barely spoke for one. Where the crowd went wild for Obama, their enthusiasm for Sestak and Onorato was only lukewarm. And while Obama made brief references to each in his speech, he focused on national trends rather than talking extensively about either of them.

The Philadelphia Inquirer reports that the President’s visit served to remind voters that Sestak has rubberstamped the Democrats’ reckless agenda in Washington:

Toomey, the Republican Senate candidate, said during a conference call with reporters that the event was a reminder that Sestak had been voting "in lockstep" with Obama and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D., Calif.) "pursuing a very liberal agenda that's doing a great deal of harm to our economy." The cost of the stimulus, health-care overhaul, and bailouts will prevent the possibility of a strong recovery, Toomey said.

America Loses Another 95,000 Jobs In Wake Of Liberal Joe Sestak’s Failed $787 Billion Stimulus

With just 25 days until Election Day, the non-partisan Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reported today that the American economy lost 95,000 more jobs in September and national unemployment remained at 9.6 percent as liberal U.S. Representative Joe Sestak’s (D-PA) $787 billion stimulus continued to fail to create the much-needed jobs he promised.

The Associated Press reports:

A wave of government layoffs in September outpaced weak hiring in the private sector, pushing down the nation's payrolls by a net total of 95,000 jobs.

The unemployment rate held at 9.6 percent last month, the Labor Department said Friday. The jobless rate has now topped 9.5 percent for 14 straight months, the longest stretch since the 1930s.

Upon ramming the bill into law, Sestak promised his costly stimulus would “save and create millions of jobs.”  But since then, the nation’s unemployment rate has skyrocketed from 8.2 percent to 9.6 percent.

Meanwhile, the Wall Street Journal reports that Sestak’s stimulus debacle sent more than 89,000 payments worth millions of dollars to deceased individuals and prisoners, and a recent government report revealed that the bill spent taxpayer money on a number of non-job related projects, including a study to determine how monkeys react to cocaine; $2 million to examine exotic ants; a system to purchase cell phones for smokers trying to quit, and $760,000 for a computerized choreography program, among other wasteful endeavors.

“Today’s report is yet another reminder that Joe Sestak’s reckless spending in Washington has failed to create much-needed jobs for Pennsylvanians, while driving our national debt past $13.6 trillion,” said National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) spokeswoman Amber Marchand.  “As Pennsylvanians struggle with the longest stretch of high unemployment since the Great Depression, there’s no doubt they are ready for a change, which is why they will elect Pat Toomey as their next U.S. Senator.”
